Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was born in Pasadena, California. Her family and her relocated to the United States when she was just three. Summer was a student at British and American schools as her family was living abroad. returning to her home town of Pasadena just short of her birthday of 14. In love with the idea of being an actor since the age of five, Summer took her first acting class at the age 14. Nine months later, Summer signed with an agent and an agent and started to pursue her goal full-time. She goes to college in her spare time, working to earn her degree. Was one of the young stars included in Vanity fair's cover article, "Hollywood's New Wave: The Hottest Kids in Hollywood" in August 2008.Was selected as one of the "Ten Actors to Watch" by Variety (2007).Nominee for Best Actress - Spirit Award. Bishil started her acting lessons at the age of 14. Within a year Bishil was offered an employment contract by a management or agency. Bishil was first seen in the Nickelodeon television show Just for Kicks. She has since appeared in various other children's programs. In 2007, she played the lead actress in Alan Ball's film Towelhead the film adaptation of his novel. Slate critic Dana Stevens said, "Her performance is the truest thing in a movie that, in spite of its noble intentions, seems completely fake and a little embarrassing, much like an extended PSA regarding inappropriate touching." Bob Strauss, a Los Angeles journalist for a newspaper, said that Bishil "...is one of the top natural actors in recent years. Gary Goldstein in a September 12 Los Angeles Times review of the movie Towelhead, stated that, "...newcomer Summer Bishil turns in a gutsy, quietly riveting performance as Jasira. In 2009, she was a part of Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over movie starring Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, and Ashley Judd. Jay Reiner, Associated Press, appreciated her portrayal. She was selected to play Azula in M. Night Shyamalan's 2010 film The Last Airbender, and was supposed to be the focus of the unproduced but planned sequel.
